Ministry calls on young children to compete in ‘Unesco Little Artists Exhibition’

UNESCO Little Artists Exhibition: Call for artwork!

The Ministry of Information has called on parents or guardians to allow young children to compete in drawing artwork about the World Heritage Site, a Unesco initiative, to showcase their creativity, as they are self-learning at home due to the spread of Covid-19.

The ministry’s notice on April 16 said: “Unesco office in Cambodia has designed the Unesco Little Artists Exhibition for young children aged 6 to 12 years old to participate in the artwork drawing about the World Heritage sites where young children have visited in person or seen in the book, film or television.”

Young children can also access the World Heritage List on the Unesco website and the competition must be approved by their parents or guardians, the ministry said.

Unesco said on its website post that Covid-19 has posed new challenges for parents and guardians of children. They have missed schools for a while.

“Yet confinement can also be an opportunity for learning, creativity and discovery.
“To encourage this creativity, UNESCO is inviting children between ages 6 and 12 to draw a UNESCO World Heritage site that matters to them,” Unesco said.

Unesco expressed hope that through this initiative, children all over the world will be able to express their creativity in this difficult time and learn more about the world's great cultural heritage.

Teachers, including all members of the Unesco Associated Schools Network, will support and share this initiative in their networks, it added.
