Secretariat established to support agriculture decentralization

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has set up a secretariat to coordinate and strengthen the processes of Decentralization and Deconcentration (D&D) to support the ministry’s preparation of action plans, as well as annual budgets for supporting D&D in agriculture.

The decision was signed by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries Veng Sakhon on April 22.

According to the decision, the secretariat has the responsibility to coordinate with ministries, institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, private sectors, and relevant stakeholders to provide support to sub-national administrations in the management and implementation of the D&D reforms or Ministry of Agriculture priority affairs.

“The secretariat also has the responsibility to prepare annual action plans and budgets for supporting the D&D of the agricultural sector by incorporating the annual action plans and budgets to the ministry's leaders for review.

“The secretariat is also tasked with preparing reports on progress and management challenges and implementation of the ministry's D&D reforms to the ministry leaders,” the decision reads.
